Get ready to talk conferences!
We hope everyone is as excited for our first discussion of the semester as we are! We know that some of you may be intimidated about the submission session, and we would like to allay your fears. Conference abstracts are probably the most low-key genre of academic writing, and so this is a low-stakes writing opportunity. Even if you don't have a fully-formed idea yet, you likely have a germ of an idea. The conference submission is your chance to turn that germ into a CV line. It is also an opportunity to brainstorm with your colleagues--perhaps form a panel--or discover the larger conversations out there. You do not need to have a thoroughly prepared proposal or abstract to attend the submission session! So please, feel free to hang out after our discussion has concluded to explore your ideas, collaborate with your peers, and just gain more insight to the practical process of conference submissions!
